Trump's enemies choose to misunderstand Trump's comment as acknowledging that he used this technique. It's the exact opposite. A politician who was using this technique would be the last person to point out its existence.

CheersDavid in Calhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10222355423128534221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28837843.post-28455132131762571142020-10-22T03:07:01.611-07:002020-10-22T03:07:01.611-07:00Remember, this is a guy that, not six months ago, ...Remember, this is a guy that, not six months ago, was caught red handed trying to extort a foreign government to cook up dirt on his political opponent. Here's a real example, according to a good friend:

After the disastrous Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba, many of the invading Cubans were taken prisoner. Cuba agreed to release them for a price. JFK did not want to use government money to pay this ransom. So, according to my friend, Bobby Kennedy called various large businesses and demanded donations to a fund for the prisoners' release. There was an implicit threat that the Kennedy Administration would be unfriendly to businesses that refused.

I don't write this to criticize Kennedy. I think it is SOP. From the business POV, on advantage of McCain Feingold (which was overturned in the Citizens United case) was that the politicians could no longer demand donations from corporations.

CheersDavid in Calhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10222355423128534221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28837843.post-2979008776148922832020-10-21T10:39:28.254-07:002020-10-21T10:39:28.254-07:00Still an open admission of his corruption.
