Myron Ebell, director of the Competitive Enterprise Institute's Center for Energy and Environment, which has opposed any attempt to regulate greenhouse-gas emissions, said even if there is global warming, Americans and the world will still need coal, gas, and other fossil fuels to run the technology, including air conditioning, to deal with it.Ebell goes on to say that scientists, such as Michael Mann, who have gone public with their concerns about climate change are "not trustworthy, "con men," and "bad apples." Whether that's true or whether that's false, it's a big statement, but the reporter (Don Hopey) doesn't question him at all and just dutifully writes it down as if he's a stenographer.
And he said proposals to reduce use of coal and fossil fuels will make it impossible to survive any warming that occurs.

This Ought to Win An Award
This kind of thinking ought to win an award for...something:
There's a Daily Show bit from a few years back that said the reporter's job is to listen to what both sides say, write it down, and that's it. The reporter is offended at Stewart's suggestion of adding context to disingenuous statements. Wish I could dig it up.
