Gleick Review Not Finalized, Pacific Institute Says

Last week Suzanne Goldenberg of The Guardian reported:
"A review has cleared the scientist Peter Gleick of forging any documents in his expose of the rightwing Heartland Institute's strategy and finances, the Guardian has learned."
But the Pacific Institute is telling me that no such clearing has occurred:
"The Pacific Institute Board of Directors has not finalized its review of the investigation or announced any decisions at this point."

There is a difference between the actual investigation and the Board's review of that investigation. Pay close attention to the wording. Goldenberg never claimed Pacific cleared Gleick, and said that she didn't know if he was cleared to return to work.

  3. Anon: A review is "actual" before the Board clears it? Please explain.

The board of Pacific Inst. didn't conduct the investigation. An outside investigation was done. That's what Goldenberg reported on. The Pac Int board is now reviewing that investigation and yet to make any decision on Gleick. It appears we know that Goldenberg got it correct that the investigation was completed. I guess we'll see what else she knows soon.

  5. How do you know who did the investigation?

Who did it? What was right and what was wrong?

Anyone else have the urge to impersonate a pacific institute board of directors member now, or no?

Hang on, he didn't fake the documents...

...the ones containing language which concluded to people that he did...

...eventually leading him to admit the pre-texting...

    ...but not the faking.

They need to get Lord Acton (UEA) on the case - more slippery than a greased Sir Humphry of Yes Minister fame.

I wouldn't place much credibility in an investigation bought, conducted, and ruled over by the Pac Institute of the mis-deeds of the founder and face of the Pac Institute. This investigation is done specifically to give their many friends in the media and Democratic party rationale and narrative for their defense of the Pac Institute

I am excited that the hand-picked board of the organization that Gleick founded has commissioned an investigation of their leader. Until this is cleared up it will be devastating to the organization's fundraising and credibility. Some may say that, given the incentives to "clear" Gleick, the outcome is essentially pre-determined. Pish-posh! This has all been just a horrible distraction for the important work of the Institute. To conclude: It is time to move on. Things happen. Mistakes were made. No one is perfect. It's all in a good cause.

So then is it you don't see what you've done wrong here yet? You're just going to let this post stand uncorrected?

Yup this is still an uncorrected mess that you don't seem to care to fix. Now the asshats at Watts are contacting investigation boards going after Goldenberg, and the entire situation is confused thanks to your shoddy report. Don't worry about it tho, I'm sure it'll all work out in the end.
