Godwin's Law proves true again. IMHO decisions on how to deal with current political matters shouldn't be based on the Nazis. Hitler was a unique threat.
Yes, it is a "wicked problem", according to Dr. Curry, who says a "wicked problem" has these characteristics:
1. The problem is not understood until after the formulation of a solution. 2. Wicked problems have no stopping rule. 3. Solutions to wicked problems are not right or wrong. 4. Every wicked problem is essentially novel and unique. 5. Every solution to a wicked problem is a “one shot operation.” 5. Wicked problems have no given alternative solutions.

ReplyDeleteCheers
Isn't climate change a unique threat? I'd heard that it was a "wicked problem", which by definition is essentially unique.

As usual for her these days, Curry's list is wrong.
ReplyDeleteI see from wikipedia that Dr. Curry's description of "wicked problem" should actually be credited to Jeffrey Conklin.
