The Post-ABC poll, conducted Monday to Thursday, finds 38 percent of Americans say the replacement for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died last week, should be nominated by Trump and confirmed by the current Senate, while 57 percent say it should be left to the winner of the presidential election and a Senate vote next year. That there's a right mighty gap.
The President and Senate have the Constitutional power and responsibility to fill the SC vacancy. Perhaps public disagreement with their (overly?) rapid action will make Trump and Republican Senators less popular. That's the risk they're taking.

David: It's about their sheer and utter hypocrisy, compared to what they said during Obama's last year. Do you get that?
ReplyDeleteDavid - they're all hypocrites. The Dems and the Reps both reversed their positions during Obama's last year.

ReplyDeleteDavid, that's not true. Proof by contradiction:
health care - neither party reversed their position on that
military spending - neither party reversed their position on that
abortion - no reversals
affirmative action - no reversals
Can you name one issue that they DID reverse on?
David - The Dems and Reps reversed on the issue we are discussing -- appointing a Justice late in a President's term.

ReplyDeleteObama had 9 week to make a pick and get a confirmation hearing. The Republicans have 6 weeks. You don't see a difference??
The Democrats have been pointing out the Republicans' hypocrisy, not changing their position. Using the Republicans' words against them. Which is easy to do here.
Until Merrick Garland was blocked, no one ever thought 9 months was too little time to confirm a justice. McConnell stole that seat pure and simple.
