DiC: "BTW what kind of world do we live in where two ugly comments result in being cancelled? What happened to Freedom of Speech?"
Meanwhile, Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska) is being censured by his own party for speaking what is only the plain truth. They are working to purge anyone who doesn't kiss the ring of a failed president. (a dubious strategy) And where are the cries of "but freedom of speech!"
According to Sasse:
"The anger in the state party has never been about me violating principle or abandoning conservative policy. I'm one of the most conservative voters in the Senate. The anger has always been simply about me not bending the knee to one guy.
But what Americans saw three weeks ago was ugly, shameful mob violence to disrupt a constitutionally mandated meeting of Congress to affirm that peaceful transfer of power.
It happened because the president lied to you.
He lied about the election results for 60 days, despite losing 60 straight court challenges — many handed down by wonderful Trump-appointed judges. He lied by saying that the vice president could violate his constitutional oath and just declare a new winner.
That wasn't true.
He then riled a mob that attacked the Capitol — many chanting ‘Hang Pence.’
If that president were a Democrat, we both know how you’d respond, but, because he had 'Republican' behind his name, you're defending him.
Something has definitely changed in the last four years, but it's not me.
Personality cults aren’t conservative. Conspiracy theories aren’t conservative. Lying that an election has been stolen isn’t conservative. Acting like politics is a religion isn’t conservative.”
I think, as the Republican party becomes further and further untethered from reality, Sasse will be proven wrong in his suppositions on what is and isn't conservative. He's in the minority here.
Worrying that Guam will tip over from overpopulation is "appalling." because this person has power of the rest of us. He makes the laws that we must live by.
It's appallingly stupid, I'll grant you that. And, yes, there are stupid politicians. Louie Gohmert is another. But again, it heavily depends on context.
David - you can also find appalling comments from Democrats if you look for them.

MTG has freedom of speech. She's been able to say anything she wants, and has.

ReplyDeleteWorrying that Guam will tip over from overpopulation is stupid, not "appalling."
Here's what's appalling: calling school shootings fake. Calling 9/11 fake. Calling for the assassination of political leaders.
A person who says such things is disgusting and repugnant. Just like Trump. MTG is also a fascist. No wonder Trump loves her.
