The last couple of weeks for the current year are always subject to changes (increases).
I'm not going to start wearing a mask yet, but I am going to get vaccinated as soon as the new batch is available in mid-September. (Will be my 7th; I still haven't had COVID yet.)

I'm not sure how to get an apples to apples comparison, but it looks like flu deaths are about the same order of magnitude: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/health_policy/influenza-and-pneumonia-deaths-2008-2015.pdf
Here's the weekly report, which says "CDC estimates that there have been at least 35 million illnesses, 400,000 hospitalizations, and 25,000 deaths from flu so far this season." - https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/index.htm
