Star Trek Ruined Space

"In many ways, the worst enemy of NASA is Star Trek... Captain Picard says ‘engage’ and the ship moves. And people think ‘How hard can this be?’"

Nah.

I've never heard anyone cite Star Trek to claim space travel should be easy.

What they all say is that we did it in less than 10 years with 1960s technology. And if you go look at some 1960s technology in a museum, that's pretty amazing. And yet even though we could do it with 1960s technology, we apparently can't do it at all with the technology of the 2010s. Farrrr too difficult.

There's something a little bit weird about that.

And that's got nothin' to do with Star Trek.
