This Year's Accumulated Cyclone Energy is Far Above "Normal"

Here's an interesting graph of this year's ACE (Accumulated Cyclone Energy) for the North Atlantic, compared to the 1981-2010 average:

Shows that 2017 Atlantic hurricanes occurred unusually late in the hurricane season. It's also interesting to look at the full ACE by year, which is available on wikipedia at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accumulated_cyclone_energy The very large about of year-to-year variation makes it difficult to do statistical analyses.

Is it really that late? The N Atlantic season goes until Nov 1st.
