Al Gore Getting Angry: "We Are Not Winning"

Gore turns it on at about 4:30 into the video, with the word "but." This is from the World Economic Forum December 9, 2023.

As Andrew Dessler wrote last year, "Out-of-control corporate power is the real cause of climate change."

Is a Kim Stanley Robinson solution the only thing that will work? Maybe Luigi Mangione has made a few fossil fuel CEOs wonder....

Powerful.

Layzej, do you think protests should be "amped up" to more directly confront corporate resistance of climate change solutions? (Or maybe not enough people care yet?)

I really don't know. To me, a revenue neutral carbon tax is the best way to let the market address CO2 emissions.

In my own patch, I'm fairly certain that the Trudeau government will fall this spring. His primary opposition is promising to "axe the tax" - meaning the revenue neutral carbon tax. Somehow us Canadians need to hold his feet to the fire on this issue.

L: Is Canada's electorate moving to the right? (At least, rightward for Canada?)

I can understand how Canada might be tired of Trudeau after 8-9 years.

But Poilievre seems to me to be a very strict talker who's good with putdowns and insults. Maybe it's only the clips I have seen.... But it strikes me that, like Trump, he's exactly the kind of person who should not be put in charge because of his rhetorical skills.

PS: I completely agree with you on a revenue neutral carbon tax.....

I think Canada is still fairly centrist, but the last few years have been tough everywhere. That's enough to turn the tides. Bad timing given that our closest friend and ally has just declared economic war with us.
