It
snowed today in Johannesburg, South Africa, latitude 26 degrees South. It is the depth of winter there, and they
say the snow is "freakish," but by no means rare. It's about like snow in Miami, which is 25.75 deg north of the equator. That would be really strange.

bear in mind that Johannesburg is 1700 metres (5,500 feet) above mean sea level so not really like Miami at all.
