AGW Predicted Before it Occurred

I like this, from Eric Steig of U Washington:

The two statements are less parallel than they appear. Today, almost all scientists have a high degree of belief that CO2 emissions cause global warming. Many decades before the warming was observed,a few scientists hypothesized that CO2 emissions would cause global warming, but there was nothing like today's strong consensus.

So? New research always takes place at the edge, which by definition most have not heard of. It takes time for ideas to propagate.

Was there anyone working in the field who predicted CO2 wouldn't cause warming?
