Did you know Ernst Mach was anti-atom? I didn't. He disputed their existence, and he and Ludwig Boltzmann argued about it for the rest of their lives.
My good friend Paul Halpern, whom I knew well in graduate school and stay in touch with, has a book coming out: The Great Atom Debate, about this very disagreement.
