US Coal Production Under Trump

It's not going up:

When he campaigned in 2016, Trump said:
On Thursday, Trump drew wild applause in Charleston, W.Va., by telling miners in hard hats and reflective stripes to get ready to be "working your asses off" in reopened mines if he's elected. Some people waved signs saying, "Trump digs coal," and the business tycoon joked about needing a spritz of hair spray after trying on a miner's helmet, the gift of an industry group.

"I'm thinking about the miners all over this country," Trump said. "We're gonna put the miners back to work. We're gonna put the miners back to work. We're gonna get those mines open."
It was another lie.

1. Making a prediction that fails to come true is not a lie.

2. I wish this chart had included past years. See:

https://knoema.com/infographics/qmfwmqc/united-states-coal-revival-or-decline

This chart shows coal production sharply declined by 35% from 2008 to 2016, rose slightly in 2017, and fell slightly in 2018, but to a little higher level than 2016.

The chart also includes 2019 and 2020. I assume these are someone's projections.

3. Trump exaggerates, as do other politicians. Politicians typically make optimistic predictions during campaigns. I think Trump meant that he would support coal mining more than the previous Administration. He has certainly done that.

Cheers

Trump didn't make a "prediction," he made a promise.

Cons only need the empty rhetoric, no actual support is required, the Con hot air is all.

How dim can the miners be? No tax relief, no health care, only less jobs in real time. And they all stand up and yell 'hooray'!

Just wait until he takes away their Medicare and the Social Security they paid for, they are so lost and confused that they'll stand up and 'hooray!' even louder.
