Revkin: Gleick's "reputation in tatters...."

Andrew Revkin writes "...Gleick has admitted to an act that leaves his reputation in ruins and threatens to undercut the cause he spent so much time pursuing."

Revkin's breaking tweet is here.

This of course says nothing about what's in the files.

Think Dan Rather, 'kerning' and GWB's military record.

David, you know d*mn well they are going to use this as a smoke screen to try and hand-flap away from the contents.

Because, you know, stealing documents and releasing their contents into the Internets is only OK for one side. Apply the 'liberal test' and you will see immediately IOKIYAR.

Don't let the hand-flapping, dissembling, ululating, and misdirecting distract you.

Best,

D

Er, reputation for what, Andy? The sorts of parlor games that NYT reporters put so much weight on? The sort that led to Judy Miller, etc., etc., etc? The sort that got Punch invited to Judy's dinner parties even as she was transcribing that deadly pablum?Just sayin'.

This, recall, is a newspaper whose ombudsman famously (and just a month ago) was unsure as to whether it was their job to be concerned about the, um, truth.

But many other reporters seem to want to follow Revkin's lead without thinking very much, so I suppose we'll see how much traction this little meme gets.
