Where Are They Wearing Masks?

From the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation:

I don't know what's wrong with Illinois. Or the entire upper midwest, for that matter.

IMHE is now projecting 231,000 deaths by November 1st. 77 9/11's.

They say more people are wearing masks, and "if that number increases to 95% across all states, around 32,000 lives could be saved."

I believe that masks offer considerable benefit. Still, it bothers me that cases continue to rise here in CA, despite high mask usage.

Cheers

The US Navy had a it outbreak on that he Theodore Roosevelt and used the aircraft carrier as a Petri dish.

One thing they found was that a person who wore a mask had a 56% chance of catching Covid. Without a mask it was 81%.

A mask won't give complete protection, but it improves your odds.

I'm old with comorbidities, so I reckon my chances can be described using a dice throw.

5 or 6, I get through this uninfected.

2,3 or 4, I get Covid-19 and recover.

1, I get Covid-19 and come out dead or crippled.

Never mind individual freedom, if a mask gives me +1 on the dice, it's worth wearing.

That's not Illinois (in yellow), it's Indiana. Illinois is the next state to the west.

Oops, pretty dumb of me. Thanks for the correction, Ned.

My kids and I were just tested for COVID. My youngest had a sore throat in the morning so the kids were not permitted to attend day camp until he was cleared. Officially it may take up to 7 days to get the results, but we hear that they are often turning them around in 24-48 hours. We're to self quarantine until we are cleared.

Results are negative. Came back in < 24 hours. Missed one day of camp. Not sure whether this will scale once school opens.
